Building Your First Web Platform: From Zero to Launch
You will start with the idea for a useful visual workspace and gradually turn it into IdeaBoard: a multi-user platform where people can create accounts, build and save boards, organize ideas visually, share work, manage access, and return later to continue where they left off.
Learn How a Web Platform Is Put Together
A web platform is more than a page with useful features. It combines the browser interface people use, server-side code that handles trusted work, a database that remembers information, accounts that establish identity, and rules that control who can do what.
IdeaBoard gives us one project to follow from idea to launch. As the platform grows, you will see why it needs an interface, browser logic, backend code, stored data, user identity, permissions, and a reliable way to move from a local project to a live platform.
You will also learn why we choose each technology, where AI can genuinely help during development, and how to make informed decisions about the code it helps you create.
What You'll Learn
By the end, you will understand the major systems behind a database-backed web platform and how they work together.
Understand How a Platform Works
Learn how the interface, browser logic, backend, database, user accounts, and permissions work together to create a complete web platform.
Build the Platform's Foundation
Create accounts, sessions, workspaces, boards, stored content, permissions, sharing, and the connections that keep each user's work organized and protected.
Create the Interactive IdeaBoard Editor
Build notes, text, shapes, drawing tools, dragging, resizing, zoom, layers, undo and redo, autosave, exports, and portable board files.
Prepare IdeaBoard for Launch
Add secure access controls, testing, product positioning, production configuration, deployment, and a realistic plan for future growth.
Build the Same Product as You Learn
IdeaBoard grows throughout the course. Each new concept adds to the same application, so you can see how individual features become part of a complete platform.
Who This Course Is For
This course is for you if you have some basic experience building web pages and want to understand how a real web platform is designed and built. You do not need previous experience with backend development, databases, user authentication, or software platforms. We will introduce those parts as they become necessary to IdeaBoard.
